II. Mission:
A. To act as a clearinghouse for GIS information and expertise in Iowa so that government and businesses wanting to use GIS and GPS can do so more efficiently and inexpensively.
B. To encourage the development of open GIS and GPS standards so that synergies can be increased among Iowa efforts.
C. Facilitate the voluntary exchange of data among GIS and GPS users in Iowa so that data development redundancy and development costs are reduced.
D. Encourage the use of the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) and other telecommunications networks to transport and share GIS data around Iowa.
E. Improve policy makers' knowledge of GIS and GPS so that these technologies are used more often for planning, problem solving, and education in Iowa.
F. Serve as a focus point for intergovernmental efforts to seek additional funds, especially federal, for GIS and GPS development in Iowa.

IV. Structure of State GIS Coordination: Unknown
V. Subcommittees:
The IGIC Steering Committee will appoint appropriate subcommittees to carry out the objectives of the IGIC. The appointees to these subcommittees will come from the entire body of the IGIC.
VI. Membership:
The Iowa Geographic Information Steering Committee consists of two representatives from the following; federal government agencies, state government agencies, county government agencies, municipal government agencies, educational institutions, and private organizations. A chairperson shall be selected by the committee members to serve a term of two years.
VII. Meetings:
The steering committee will meet at least quarterly through the year and will hold at least one yearly meeting of the entire IGIC body. A statewide GIS users group meeting will be held in conjunction with the IGIC meeting. Steering committee meetings will be arranged by the chairperson.

D. Steering Committee meetings - meets bimonthly to handle ongoing IGIC projects.
