DLNR To Begin Construction Of Improvements
To Wa'ahila Ridge State Recreation Area

HONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will begin construction work at Wa‘ahila Ridge State Recreation Area on February 13, 2006. Improvements will occur at the parking area; east picnic pavilion; comfort station; and west area.

“The park will remain open during construction, and portable toilets will be provided during the closure of the comfort station,” said DLNR chairperson Peter Young.

"These improvements are part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's ongoing efforts to upgrade our state parks and to ensure the safety and comfort of all residents and visitors who use the parks," said Young.

The contractor Site Engineering Inc. will start construction at the parking area by building an improved roadway up to the east picnic pavilion. At the pavilion, they will construct an accessible parking with a pathway to the pavilion, install a new water fountain and an accessible picnic table.
Improvements to the comfort station will include new accessible fixtures and a leveled entryway.
Construction of a new pathway will allow everyone to approach the west area and sit at an accessible picnic table to view Manoa Valley. There are other related improvements that will be included, such as traffic bollards and signs.

Project cost is $160,080 and construction of these improvements is expected to be completed by early November this year.
