DLNR Presents Workshops
On Shoreline Management Issues

HONOLULU— The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), with the University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program, is conducting a series of free integrated shoreline workshops, starting this week, which are intended to highlight the efforts of the State to improve coordination between state, federal and county agencies tasked with shoreline management and its many challenges.

“We believe these workshops are timely and necessary to inform government agencies, businesses, landowners, homeowners and community associations on the latest approaches to protecting our precious coastal resources,” said DLNR chairperson Peter Young.

“There continues to be growing interest in the range of actions that can address coastal erosion and hazard mitigation, regulatory issues and common questions regarding coastal land use and these workshops will be very helpful for persons looking for solutions,” Young said.

Registration is not required to attend the workshops. Walk-ins are welcome.

The schedule of workshops follows:

KAUA‘I -- March 9, 2-5 p.m. at Kauai Community College Cafeteria, 3-1901 Kaumualii Hwy in Lihue.

MAUI -- March 16, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Maui County Velma Santos Community Center (Main Hall), 395 Waena Pl. in Wailuku.

HILO -- March 23, 12:30-4:30 p.m. at the Hawaii County State Office Bldg., 75 Aupuni St,. first floor rooms A-D, Hilo.

KONA -- March 30, 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Kealakehe High School Cafeteria, 74-5000 Puohulihuli St. in Kailua- Kona.

HONOLULU -- April 6, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., at Kalanimoku State Office Building, 1151 Punchbowl Street, Honolulu.
