DLNR Hold Public Meeting To Discuss Evening
Closure Of Keawa`ula Section Of Kaena Pt. State Park

HONOLULU— The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at the Waianae District Park multi-purpose building, to discuss night time closure of the Keawa‘ula (Yokohama Bay) section of Ka’ena Point State Park.

The meeting location is at 81-601 Farrington Highway in Waianae.

The purpose of the meeting is to solicit public input on how to implement park closing hours to protect the park resources and public safety.

“We want to use this opportunity to get input from the Waianae coast community to address long-standing problems with illegal evening activities at the park, damage to natural resources, and potential for injury to the public at a very isolated and remote area,” said DLNR chairperson Peter Young.

“We recognize that fishermen also want to use the area overnight, and we want to get their input as well,” he said.

Persons needing special accommodations should contact the Division of State Parks before the meeting at (808) 587-0300.
