HONOLULU— To obtain the public’s ideas on how to better protect the environment, Governor Linda Lingle will host the State Cooperative Conservation Listening Session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, at the Hawai`i Convention Center, Room 317ab. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is coordinating the event. After attending a federal Cooperative Conservation Listening Session on September 7, Governor Lingle decided it would benefit the public to have a similar State listening session to further discuss ideas for enhancing cooperative conservation and partnerships. In addition to the Governor, the listening panel will include Linda Smith, senior policy advisor, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Department of Health and Peter Young, chairman of the Department of Land and Natural Resources. Also attending portions of the session will be Ted Liu, director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism; Rod Haraga, director of the Department of Transportation; and Sandy Lee Kunimoto, director of the Department of Agriculture. Federal Cooperative Conservation Listening Sessions were held by the U.S. Departments of the Interior, Agriculture, and Commerce across the country to solicit and exchange ideas on incentives, partnership programs and regulations that can improve results and promote cooperative conservation and environmental partnerships.
