DLNR To Hold Information Meeting On Manele
Small Boat Harbor Improvement Project

HONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will conduct a public information meeting at 6 p.m., on Friday, December 8, 2006, on ferry system improvements it is planning for the Manele Small Boat Harbor on Lana‘i.

The meeting will be held at the Lana‘i High and Elementary School Cafeteria, 555 Fraser Avenue, Lana‘i City.

"Manele small boat harbor has for many years been an important hub of activity for the Lana‘i community. We want to keep island residents informed about the improvements we'll be making to this facility," said Peter Young, DLNR chairperson.

The proposed improvements consist of constructing a new comfort station; an administrative office; paved access roads and parking areas; water mains and fire hydrants; sewage pump station and force main; sewage pump out station; fuel dispensing facility; telephone utilities; electrical utilities and street lights; a new covered waiting area; multi-use parking; storm water drainage systems, landscaping, closure of large capacity cesspools, and ADA improvements.

The project, being undertaken by Maui Master Builders, is expected to take one year to complete at a cost of $13,772,166, ($10,614,000 in Federal funding and $3,158,166 in State funding) for design and construction.
