HONOLULU — With the Labor Day weekend approaching, Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is reminding the public about state laws in place to protect natural resources and public safety at Ka‘ena Point State Park. Over the Labor Day weekend, as part of normal enforcement patrols, DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement officers will be monitoring these, and other state areas to ensure public safety and compliance with applicable rules. Overnight camping is prohibited within all areas of Ka‘ena Point State park, including the Makua section. Camping is defined as “remaining within a state park or on unencumbered state land while in possession of a sleeping bag, tent, tarpaulin, or other camping paraphernalia from one hour after sunset until sunrise.” Camping is allowed only by permit at designated state parks or forest areas. Camping is not permitted on other state unencumbered lands. Driving on the beach, and operating motorized vehicles off designated roads are also prohibited. Vehicles may enter the park after the paved road, but must stay off vegetation and all beach areas. Vehicles may not park on the beach areas. Consumption of alcohol is prohibited within all state parks. Alcohol consumption is also prohibited within state forest reserves, unencumbered state land and small boat harbors. Ground and open fires are prohibited on all state beaches and state recreational areas. Littering and dumping of trash are prohibited, as is removal of sand or rocks. No animals are allowed in the park except for service animals. However, in the Ka‘ena Point Natural Area Reserve at the point, all animals are strictly prohibited, for protection of endangered wildlife there. No commercial activities are permitted in the park. No golfing is allowed.
