Akaku Not An Agency
Akaku - Maui Community Television, Inc. (Akaku),
a private, non-profit corporation which provides
community programming and receives funding from cable TV companies,
is not an "agency" as the
term is defined under the UIPA because it is not "owned, operated,
or managed by or on behalf of this
State or any county." Although the State Department of Commerce
and Consumer Affairs (DCCA)
provided assistance to Akaku in setting up its operations, the DCCA
is no longer involved in any
aspect of Akaku’s activities.
